Students from Wheeling Jesuit University recently traveled to Baltimore to attend the Mid-Atlantic Congress (MAC) of the U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops (USCCB), accompanied by Fr. Rich McCouch, S.J., of the Appalachian Institute.
Their purpose was to represent both the University and the diocese — who helped with travel costs, meals and registration fees — at the Congress and to learn how their own Asian and Pacific Island identities could help other minority populations during their time at Wheeling Jesuit.
The students had the opportunity to listen to three different presentations which covered a range of topics. The group was able to introduce themselves to the speakers as well as participate in a thoughtful discussion after each session.
“The students shared some of their own personal stories with the speakers. The Spirit was really moving during this,” said Fr. McCouch, S.J. “On the way back, students continued their discussions with one another and talked about how they could bring back what they learned at the conference to campus.”
